What a sad, sad day it is for the world of sports...
Longtime ESPN anchor, Stuart Scott has succumbed to his battle with cancer after fighting the disease off and on for the past seven years.
The shocking and devastating news was announced this morning and confirmed by his work home for the past 22 years, ESPN.
Stuart attracted sports fans and non-sports fans alike with his witty personality and signature catchphrases like "Boo-yah!" and "He must be the bus driver cuz he was takin' him to school."
Stu spent the last few years of his life battling many forms of cancer, first being diagnosed in 2007 with cancer of the appendix, and overcoming that with successful treatments only to be met with cancer again in 2011, when doctors found tumors on his small intestine.
All seemed to be on the up and up for the sports journalist's health after aggressive rounds of chemotherapy and radiation until January 2014, where he was diagnosed with cancer again.
Through it all, Stuart never looked at his diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence, but instead a reminder to live life to the fullest.
During his acceptance speech for the Jimmy V award at the 2014 ESPYS, Stu shared a memorable and worthy nugget of advice when dealing with the disease:
"When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live."
Stuart leaves behind his two daughters 19-year-old Taelor, 15-year-old Sydni, and girlfriend Kristen Spodobalski.
What a terrible loss for his family and loved ones. There's slight comfort in knowing he now gets to rest and enjoy peace for an eternity.
