Now this is what you call stadium status! Earlier today dozens of world leaders and tens
of thousands gathered into Johannesburg's FNB Soccer Stadium to celebrate one
of the world’s most influential leaders of the 20th century.
During the national memorial service President Obama was nothing
short of providing a captivating eulogy that reminded South Africa of the true
gem that once lived amongst them. Obama, recapping the early moments of Nelson Mandela’s life into the latter, revisited pivotal moments that captured the essence of who he was.
Calling the former South African President “strongly resistant” and “a giant of history” he also spoke of Mandela as someone who displayed remarkable humility. Mandela, known for admitting his imperfections, was quoted by Obama saying, “I’m not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.” (Personal plug: Me likey that quote! Amen!)
A spirit that graced the earth with courage, selflessness, forgiveness, patience and strength, (27 years of imprisonment! whew!) one can only hope his legacy of human rights and equality will live until the end of time.
Ubuntu!!
“And finally, Mandela understood the
ties that bind the human spirit. There
is a word in South Africa -- Ubuntu -- a word that captures Mandela’s greatest
gift: his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that are invisible
to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
sharing ourselves with others, and caring for those around us.” – President
Obama

Say cheese! We weren't the only ones who were caught in the moment! President Obama is shown taking a shot of history (literally) with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt:

R.I.L. Nelson Mandela:
Mandela's final resting place will be in Qunu, the tribal village located on the country's Eastern Cape near other family members.
